Why Travel Fit Now?
When you are fit, healthy, and strong, you get inspired to find more opportunities to travel, explore, take new adventures and find new things to experience. And you will be ready to seize those opportunities when they come along!
Why TF Now shares what our director, exercise and sport physiologist Tracy Benham, MS, says is the “fitness with a deadline” philosophy. An upcoming event or once-in-a- lifetime experience can provide instant motivation to work toward all of your health and fitness goals. In fact, it’s one of the most successful ways to get, and stay, motivated. Just ask any bride, Olympic athlete, person going to a 20-year high school reunion, or climber who is planning on climbing Everest.
It shouldn’t take a lifetime event to stay fit and healthy, but sometimes “life” just gets in the way. We get busy taking care of everyone else’s needs first, and sometimes we just flat out don’t really feel like exercising or eat healthfully.
It doesn’t have to be that way, though. Finding a reason to get up extra early to exercise, skip the fast food and pay attention to your health can be as easy as planning your next adventure. It doesn’t even have to be the trip or event of a lifetime. Planning a family event such as hiking, rafting or learning how to ice skate is a great start. Learning a new sport is also an excellent motivation to get fit. Thinking about how amazing it will be to wakeboard/Surf/kayak on your next trip to Florida will almost put your shoes on your feet for you and get you out the door.
Start with a small goal to get fit. You might choose to get ready for the start of the new school year, or to be able to go on that weekend hiking trip, or to finally be able to learn to … So many choices. But if small isn’t your style, start big and plan a trip next winter to learn how to snowboard, climb a mountain, or take a tour of Italy on a bike (or you can join me this October *).
The size of your goal doesn’t matter – as long as it excites you!
