Nature is Waiting for you This Weekend!

GC from NPS

This is the last weekend to take advantage of the National Parks Service Fee- Free Weekend for the year.

* National parks have been breaking visitation records all summer. Yellowstone and Yosemite have had reportedly decade-high numbers of visitors this summer.  Almost all of the 391 National Parks, including historic and landmark sites, have seen an increase in traffic for the summer of 2009. Park managers believe the decrease in fuel cost from last summer’s price of over $4.00 a gallon to approximately $2.50 a gallon this summer has helped to increase the numbers at all major parks this summer.

The U.S. Secretary of the Interior, Ken Salazar, announced in June that the National Park Service would offer three fee-free weekends this summer at 147 of its National Parks that charge admission (many of the other parks are already free). This includes some of the nation’s most popular and legendary parks, such as the Grand Canyon, Yosemite, Zion and Yellowstone.

Even the first family is participating. This weekend President Obama and the First Family will be visiting Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming and the Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona.

So what are you waiting for? Make a plan to spend some time outside this weekend. This is the perfect time to spend one of the last weekends of summer with your friends and family.

Get outside, spend time with nature and go explore!
